From August to December 2006, Professor Goetz Braun served as the first Head Instructor of Miami Ballroom, the University of Miami’s Latin and Ballroom Dance Club in Miami, FL, USA.  We were so fortunate to have Goetz (or “Gus,” as his students affectionately called him), on our team as we began building the foundation for a ballroom dance program at UM. With over 30 years of experience in choreography, competition, and instruction, Goetz developed a three-month curriculum for beginner students in Latin and Ballroom dance.  The University of Miami now uses this curriculum as a foundation to teach over 70 students, beginners to advance, every semester.  Goetz was also instrumental in establishing a competitive branch of Miami Ballroom which now represents the University of Miami in intercollegiate competitions. Goetz has a tremendous breadth of knowledge about ballroom dancing, including technique, history, and etiquette.  But more importantly, he is able to effectively communicate that knowledge to his students by providing a positive and enjoyable learning environment. Goetz was responsible for teaching a group of over 50 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the community every week, who now serve as a testament to Goetz’s ability to teach a broad age range and appeal to the sensibilities of many different types of people. Goetz was the consummate professional, always arriving early to assist students and offering his help any way that he could.  Having hired five different instructors in just three years, I know that dance teachers like Goetz are not easily found – those who are reliable, effective, and passionate about teaching.  Goetz was a pleasure to work with and any University would be fortunate to have him on their teaching staff.
